Project Description:

Situated between Battersea Park and Vauxhall, the regenerated Nine Elms is one of the most desirable places to live in London. Nine Elms Point consists of 647 apartments and penthouses set in over an acre of private landscaped gardens. Ustigate designed and built the water features.

Challenge:

Part of a large multi-storey private residential development project at Nine Elms, Battersea:

Barratt London requested a shallow mirror pool  and a natural environment for the surrounding residents to enjoy. The water feature required a recirculation system to maintain water clarity, as well as LED lighting to extend the water features use late into the evening.

Success:

Ustigate designed and built an aesthetically pleasing water feature consisting of two water rills, a waterfall and a triangular mirror pool; complete with LED lighting to continue emphasising this beautifully shaped water feature at night.

The shallow mirror pool is fed via three water entries, two long raised water rills and a letter box style system that delivers a cascading waterfall effect. All three elements enable water to flow throughout the garden before reaching the beautifully shaped, triangular mirror pool. The water from the pool travels back to the plant room where it is filtered and chemically treated before returning to the water course in the garden. To illuminate the water feature at night, LED strip lighting is recessed around the edge of the pool, emphasising the unique shape, with additional under water spotlights that illuminate the weir edges, rills and the dynamic movement of the waterfall.

A recirculation system guarantees the water is of safe quality for all residents.

Maintenance:

Annual visit from Ustigate to retain high standard operation and condition of the recirculation system and water features.

A defining feature of Nine Elms Point is the infrastructure in place to give nature a home, in the heart of London.

A podium garden provides 7,300 sqm. of new urban biodiverse landscaping creating a ‘Hidden Forest’ and ‘Four Seasons’ garden at the core of the development. The ‘Hidden Forest’ podium garden is inspired by the Matisse painting ‘The Snail’ and includes a series of biodiverse flowers, an allotment, rainwater features, a cherry tree walk, drought resistant planting, and bird boxes along the length of the walkway.
