Description: Design and Installation of Plaza Water Feature
Challenge:
New fountains formed a key part of the Withernsea Seafront Improvement Plan, designed to breathe new life into the promenade area.
The Withernsea Promenade site has specific challenges with it being a sandy and saline, tidal environment. The water to the feature should be a treated and recycled because of the water usage and because the feature will be situated in an area open to people and dogs.
Success:
The Withernsea Promenade water feature is a plaza style feature with 14 clear stream water jets and RGB LED lighting to light up the feature at night.
The fountain is designed in an arrow shape with two jets to each of the seven sections.
The jets are programmed to rise and fall in a sequenced display, by sections or rows to provide a pleasing show throughout the day and a colour changing display at night. An anemometer monitors the weather and lowers the water jets in windy conditions.
The water management system is a PWTAG compliant recirculation system, making the water feature sustainable in terms of its water usage and water quality for safe, public interaction. A GRP plant room accommodates the water management system for the plaza water feature on Withernsea Promenade. There are two separate subterranean tanks, one for the clean, treated water to service the feature and another for the water return.
